Im going to D.C. at the end of May. Im trying to get plans finalized. Any help would be appreciated. ok. first-Do we need to rent a car for our stay? (1 wk) or is the public transportation sufficient? I have read that parking is awful, and you are better off using public trans., but i need to make sure. Also, if i use public transport...we are wanting to go to Quantico, VA to the Marine Corps Museum...how could we get there? is there a system that runs there from D.C. or would we need our own vehicle? Next- best places to stay for a reasonable cost?? im lost on that one....can be in D.C., or close in Maryland or VA. Only serious responses please....Id like to get this trip mapped ASAP. I live in Metro DC so I can probably give you some advise. First of all, parking is not that hard to find in DC, paid parking that is. I suggest that you don't rent a car while you're in DC because you will find a hard time finding available parking meters or pay a lot in parking in the garages. Everything around DC is only a few miles in radius and is definitely within walking distance especially that you have a week to do it. You wouldn't need any kind of transportation if you will be going to the places listed below.

Jefferson Memorial
National Monument
World war 2 Memorial
Vietnam Memorial
Korean Memorial
National Mall
Capitol Building
The White House (outside only of course)
Smithsonian Museums (Holocaust Museum, Spy Museum, African Heritage, Air and Space, etc..)
If in any case that you would like to venture outside the DC area or within DC area then you can use the Metro rail or buses. The metro rail would be better because its fast and predictable. It's clean and very safe also. It travels around DC, Northern Virginia, and parts of Maryland.
The Marine Corps Museum is not reached by metro rail but you can probably use the VRE rail but I suggest not to make it complex. Leave like your last day in going there. That's when you can rent a car to go to other places outside DC that is only a few minutes away. Please see the places below.

Iwo Jima Memorial (car)
Marine Corps Museum Quantico (car)
Navy Yard US Navy Museum and Marine Corps Museum (use metro rail)
Pentagon (use metro rail-you can't go inside without an invitation but you can see it on the way..That's all you need to see anyways)
Tyson's Corner Mall (car- state of the art mall-real nice)
Tyson's 2 Galleria (car-just across Tyson's Corner mall but is very expensive and usually have rich customers-no food court per se)
Pentagon City Mall - The Fashion Center (train-near Pentagon)
Chinatown near Verizon Center (car or train- Wizard team)
I would suggest for you guys to taste the food in Five Guys Fast Food because it's ranked as having the best burger in this area.
As far as hotels are concerned. You can either stay in DC hotels or you can also stay on the ones by Arlington or Alexandria which is only about 15 to 20 minutes away. Most of the hotels have free shuttle services that goes to Reagan National Airport and Metro Stations. If you decide to stay in DC, all you need to do is step out and immediately start your sightseeing compared to taking the train which is not really a hassle but just a matter of preference.
As far as hotels, I would suggest calling around. Of course, cheap ones here start at a very rare $75 outside of DC. Sheraton, Inns of Virginia, Hilton, and Holiday Inn are fairly okay with price but not constant. I really would suggest that you call around. Try Marrioot first in NW DC because its only 4 blocks away from the White house but not sure about the price. The Sheraton National Hotel near the Pentagon is also okay and might have a good price but it really depends on the demand. Hotels in DC gets overbooked all the time so I suggest that you reserve right away and arrive no later than 5 pm so your slot won't be given away, oh yes they do that.
Do everything in DC first and then rent a car for a day or two to go around. Parking is also really expensive in the hotel. Around $15 per night in Virginia and $25 per night in DC..

Reply:1) Public transport is awesome! If you're flying into DCA (Reagan) there is a metro stop at the airport. You can public transport from Dulles (take the bus to the West Falls Church metro stop) but that might be a bit much for a tourist especially if you have kids with you. Another option is to simply take a cab into the city. Parking's a nightmare so I'd avoid the car rental.
2) You need a rental car to get to Quantico. Just pick one up for the day (metro to Reagan airport then rent a car from there).
3) Depends what you mean by reasonable costs. Like $150-200 a night, I would recommend Hotel Lombardy. It's one block north of The George Washington University and is only three blocks west of the White House. The Watergate (26th and Virginia NW) is around the same price and is close to everything. If you don't want to spend as much, check out Herndon, VA (Near Dulles Airport). The only problem with staying outside of the city is that any savings you had are eaten up by parking/rental car.
Reply:Public trans is more then sufficient. Renting a car is something you would only regret...especially w/ parking and parking costs in DC. Just find a hotel somewhat near a metro, or you can always depend on a cab.
Quantico has an AMTRAK stop in the center of it, and the Marien Corps Museum is a short ride away by cab.
You could also look into renting a car just for that one day...OR you could look into the ZIP car program here in DC.
The hotel stay would be another thing. Kind of difficult. You could stay in a cheaper hotel in DC but risk a bad region. OR stay outside of DC and have a horrible long distance to travel to get to the sites. IF you are interested in hearing more let me know and I will see what you have in mind as far as $, area, dates, etc.

If you are going to spend most of your trip in Washington DC, I suggest taking the Metrorail System; it is the subway system. Parking is terrrible in the city. On the weekdays, it runs from about 5:30AM until Midnight (some stations vary). On the weekends, it runs from about 7:00AM until 3:00AM (some stations vary). There is usually a Metro Station near all the main attractions in DC, but there are some decent buses (RED circulator). You will have to rent a car to get to Quantico. Check-out car rentals at Union Station and Reagan National Airport. I am not sure about lodging, but I would suggest the Crystal City, VA area. Good luck on your trip.

I downloaded this game silkroad i installed but when i try playing it this error comes up and it reads like this

Your program compiled fine for me using gcc but you do have some logic errors.
(1) Your for loop doesn't actually do anything so you need to code an action for it. Using char x is fine by the way. A char is a valid numeric type to use in a loop.
(2) Your if statement will always be false. You are reading in type char for either 1 or 2 but your if statement is comparing against an int value. You need to change it to

I'm taking an independent study course on C++ programming through my college. So far I've created a mean and standard deviation program, a linear regression program, and a few other much simpler programs. Need help C# do while statement?

I Have a class named MyClass. I make an instance of that and name it MyInstance1. Then I define another MyClass object named MyInstance2. After all I do this:
MyInstance2=MyInstance1;
After this line, whenever I use the MyInstance2 members (such as methods, properties, fields and etc...) in my current procedure It is going to be same as MyInstance1, In the Matter that MyInstance1 and MyInstance2 are pointing to a same area in the memory. (a little same as union variables in C %26amp; C++). I know that is a general feature of C#.
But I want to do that like in C. I mean I want to make a copy of MyInstance1 and name it as MyInstance2 (not defining a union which points to same area in memory) and these two instances must be apart.
Also I prefer doing so in Managed mode (Not Unmanaged way).

You're talking about cloning the instance. Depending on what your class is, you may want a deep or shallow copy. If you're looking for a shallow copy, you want to look at the MemberwiseClone method of Object. Otherwise, you'll want to write up your own copy logic and use IClonable.Clone.
As a point of note, all object references in C# are just that: object references. The best way to compare this back to C is more like you've malloc'ed a region of memory for your use, and you're setting a second pointer to it, but to get a copy, you have to memcopy it.

Problem with A/C Blows air only on Max and not cold HELP !!?
I have an acura Tl 1996 2.5 4 dr. The a/c was not working (blower) I changed the a/c unit. Now it only works when you put it on Max (when you press once nothing happens,twice nothing happens,three nothing until 4 (max)) then starts blowing out air. The air is regular air is not cold at all. What can be wrong with it? I changed blower and resistance. When you press 1 you feel the car kind of turns on a bit more but in about 2 secs it just goes back to normal ( as if when you press 1 time to go to low it tries to turn on the compressor but then it just stops in 2 secs) Any help please its too hot to be driving with no a.c. Thanks in advance for the help.

maybe you need to take it to a dealer...you obviously did something wrong. (it may not have been the blower at all...coulda been the condenser or thermostat....) it's always a good thing to know what you're doing before you do it and make more trouble for yourself than you imagine.

TAX HELP!! -1099-Misc & Schedule C ...Extension??
I received a 1099-Misc with a larger amount of compensation paid. $8,000 more which makes a big difference on the due. I have copies of all the checks I received from my employer but since I started doing my taxes just yesterday, I haven't been able to get a hold of him. What do I do? File for an extension or just put the correct amount I know I received as income?

My local disk c shows it's good for storing videos!!! Help Please!!!?
ehenever i open my local disk c, it has this 'film' emblem on the lower right of the folder that indicates that it is for storing video files. i know it's not supposed to be that way, but whaen i right click local disk c, no folder optoins appear and i can't switch it back to the old normal state!!! i've tried system restore, but still won't work!!! i've even scanned it for viruses, but i found none!!!, ever since this happened, when i click on program files or any other folder in drive c, it starts to slow down, not opening the folder! hwat should i do to bring it back to it's normal state!!! help please!!!

- youve said that you had tried to use system restore but did you really stored it in the pc's status wherein the problem isnt existing yet? did you created a save state before the problem existed? because that would mean that you're just restoring your pc to a state that the problem is already present, your pc is slowing down because the computer tends to save system files while you system restore, thats why it takes so much disk space especially when your restoring so many times already.. hence, system lag arises..
- there is a possibility that whats your experiencing right now is a virus problem, even though your virus definition engine is up to date before you got attacked, virus definitions get updated only through the reports submitted by PC users worldwide to the virus database of your virus engine.. got that? what if the virus that attacked your system hasn't been reported? therefore there are no available treatment yet thats why when you scanned it. just returned zero results.. and there are also viruses that cannot be removed by antivirus like norton or mcafee, and even system restore..
- the only solution left is REFORMATTING YOUR DRIVE.. that will surely remove those pesky viruses..

Help calling Borland C++ based API from MSV C++?
I am trying to call a Borland C++ based API from a Microsoft Visual C++ application via a dll from the Borland Code. I am not having much luck. True, they won't know which parts are C and which are not. For that reason, it might be a good idea to give them a small taste of what C is but I would not relegate them to a year of C programming before moving on. It isn't a promotion path.
In terms of what to pass on, I would say, worry mostly about what is today. We don't teach them FORTRAN before learning C do we?
Furthermore, someone new starting out should only be taught one thing to start. Once they get the concepts, then they can branch out to other languages.

Problem with A/C Blows air only on Max and not cold HELP !!?
I have an acura Tl 1996 2.5 4 dr. The a/c was not working (blower) I changed the a/c unit. Now it only works when you put it on Max (when you press once nothing happens,twice nothing happens,three nothing until 4 (max)) then starts blowing out air. The air is regular air is not cold at all. What can be wrong with it? I changed blower and resistance. When you press 1 you feel the car kind of turns on a bit more but in about 2 secs it just goes back to normal ( as if when you press 1 time to go to low it tries to turn on the compressor but then it just stops in 2 secs) Any help please its too hot to be driving with no a.c. Thanks in advance for the help.

I'm visiting the city this weekend for training, and I'm staying with a friend in D.C. My friend just relocated too, so is uncertain of taking public transit outside of what's needed for work, which is right there in D.C.
I need to get from D.C. to the B'more Convention Center on Saturday, but none of the sites I've looked at (MARC, MTA, WMATA) to get directions have been helpful for this.
PLEASE HELP! Even if you don't have specific directions, but can give me the phone number of the most likely transit system to get me there, this would be extremely helpful.

This will take a couple hours, but it will be the cheapest option.

This is certainly not the cheapest, but DC metro to union station. Amtrak to Baltimore Penn Station. Cab (couple minutes) to Convention Center.
I looked at amtrak fares and they seemed to be $19-$36 each way. (actually I thought they would be higher). So this whole trip with metro and cab would cost around $60-100.
Alternatively you could take a greyhound bus, but who wants to hang about in a bus station in DC or in Baltimore? You would still have to cab from the bus station to the Conv. Ctr.
Since public transportation options are so limited, I would look at renting a car. (don't forget cost of parking, though).

If you are staying in DC, the best way besides car that I know of is to take the Marc Train from Union Station in DC to Baltimore. I've taken it to go see a baseball game in Baltimore, and I only had to walk a couple blocks to the stadium. I'm not exactly sure where the convention center is, but I'd imagine it must be accessible from where the train drops off.
Reply:Your best bet would be Greyhound bus, they go from the near capitol hill to downtown B'more near the convention center. Renting a car is the fastest way to get there if you don't like taking the bus.
Reply:There are only a couple ways to get to Baltimore using public transportation in the Washington DC Metro Area. The most practical way of going to Baltimore would be to metro to Union Station (the metro stop is Union Station) on the Red Line and then taking the Amtrak (www.amtrak.com) train to Baltimore and you can easily catch a short $10-$15 cab ride from that point. The website provides the hours and prices of the ride (usually every hour) and the cost is approximately $18 for Regional train... it will only take 45 minutes to get there by train. I hope this helped and enjoy our wonderful public transportation system ;-)
Reply:You can take the MARC train (Camden line) from Union Station in DC. The Convention Center is across the street from the Camden Station stop. I would take a train that gets you to the station earlier than you have to be there. MARC trains sometimes run late without giving passengers notice. Actually now that I think about it the MARC doesn't run on the weekend. You can take the green line metro from DC to Greenbelt, Maryland and then take a bus to Baltimore. If you can get to BWI airport you can take the Lightrail to Camden Yards. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. Public transportation really sucks in MD...another reason I miss NY

This is certainly not the cheapest, but DC metro to union station. Amtrak to Baltimore Penn Station. Cab (couple minutes) to Convention Center.
I looked at amtrak fares and they seemed to be $19-$36 each way. (actually I thought they would be higher). So this whole trip with metro and cab would cost around $60-100.
Alternatively you could take a greyhound bus, but who wants to hang about in a bus station in DC or in Baltimore? You would still have to cab from the bus station to the Conv. Ctr.
Since public transportation options are so limited, I would look at renting a car. (don't forget cost of parking, though).

Reply:you can take mart from downtown dc (ne or se) and take that to camden yards (the O's stadium) the convention center is just a short (within 1 block) walk from camden yards. Raven stadium is in the same area.

If you are staying in DC, the best way besides car that I know of is to take the Marc Train from Union Station in DC to Baltimore. I've taken it to go see a baseball game in Baltimore, and I only had to walk a couple blocks to the stadium. I'm not exactly sure where the convention center is, but I'd imagine it must be accessible from where the train drops off.
Reply:Your best bet would be Greyhound bus, they go from the near capitol hill to downtown B'more near the convention center. Renting a car is the fastest way to get there if you don't like taking the bus.
Reply:There are only a couple ways to get to Baltimore using public transportation in the Washington DC Metro Area. The most practical way of going to Baltimore would be to metro to Union Station (the metro stop is Union Station) on the Red Line and then taking the Amtrak (www.amtrak.com) train to Baltimore and you can easily catch a short $10-$15 cab ride from that point. The website provides the hours and prices of the ride (usually every hour) and the cost is approximately $18 for Regional train... it will only take 45 minutes to get there by train. I hope this helped and enjoy our wonderful public transportation system ;-)
Reply:You can take the MARC train (Camden line) from Union Station in DC. The Convention Center is across the street from the Camden Station stop. I would take a train that gets you to the station earlier than you have to be there. MARC trains sometimes run late without giving passengers notice. Actually now that I think about it the MARC doesn't run on the weekend. You can take the green line metro from DC to Greenbelt, Maryland and then take a bus to Baltimore. If you can get to BWI airport you can take the Lightrail to Camden Yards. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. Public transportation really sucks in MD...another reason I miss NY

After many years of being frustrated by a checkbook that wont balance, I decied to write a program to help balance my money market checking account. The program should begin by asking for the month's opening account balance. It should should display a menu that lists the following choices:D for deposit, C for check, W for withdrawl, %26amp; Q for quit. If D is selected, enter the amount of the deposit, %26amp; add the amount to the account balance. If C is entered, get amount of the check, subtractg the check amount from the balance. If W is entered, get amount of withdrawl, subtract amount from the balance. If Q is entered, program should display opening balance, amount deposited, amount withdrawn, amount of checks, and final balance. If something other than D,C, Q, or W is entered, program should issue an error message and redisplay the menu. Allow the user to enter uppercase or lowercase letters.

Reply:Even if it's not your homework assignment, you will learn a lot more by figuring out how to do it yourself. Here are a few hints:
- Break it down into small procedures.
- Code each one separately and test if it works.
- Start by writing pseudo-code or a list of steps that need to happen in order to complete the procedure.
For example, write a program that will do a "W" operation. Then worry about writing a program that will respond properly to a "W" command (and no other keystroke). Then join the two together. You will also need a member variable for the balance, which gets updated each time a command is executed. Good luck!

Reply:I've been programming for a while. I personally do not like C++. I would go with C# .Net. All of that is easy to do. C# and C++ are very similar. But they do have their differences. For the part... it's just the syntax that drives me nuts. So... if you have the time. Go for Microsoft's Visual Studios .Net C#. It's powerful and not very hard to learn. If you already know C++, it's really pretty easy.
For the coding part, I would suggest breaking it down and figuring out exactly what you want to do. Declare the variables and on paper sketch out what you want to happen. When you have done this, create the user interface and then insert the code. Doing it this way help keep your code from getting very messy and confusing. Trust me... you don't want messy coding.
Also, remember the variables you create. Don't assign then random names. Use names that make sense.

You can use the XOR (exclusive or) bitwise operator to flip the 6th bit. That will convert 'a' to 'A' and back again:
0100 0001 XOR 0010 0000 = 0110 0001
0110 0001 XOR 0010 0000 = 0100 0001
or, in decimal:
65 XOR 32 = 97
97 XOR 32 = 65
The C bitwise operator for XOR is the caret: ^
65^32 will give you 95.
97^32 will give you 65.
