C SECTION hELP????

After months weeks and days of being pregnant i finally had my son on july 19. he was 8lbs 9oz 22in long. but i had to have a c section because he just would not drop and i had labored for 33 hours. I just got to leave the hospital today and the pain is unbarable. they gave me percocet but anyone that knows that know that it just puts you to sleep. I sleep so i dont feel the pain then when i wake up its due to pain and i have to take another one. i have a five year old at home and my new baby i dont know when i am supposed to spend time time with them if the pain will not go away.

Has anyone ever had a c section before?

How long does it take before the pain goes away?

Does anything other than drugs help with the pain??

Please help anyway you can

Thank you

C SECTION hELP????
I know how you feel!!! Mine actually felt better around the fourth day. I woke up that morning and didn't automatically think about the pain. The residual pain and the pain felt when coughing/sneezing will last a little longer.

Massaging my uterus REALLY helped me (a nurse in the hospital showed me how to do it). Press two or three fingers into your belly around your navel and feel around for a hard ball like thing. That's your uterus. Rub and massage it while working it down and to the right a little. That is it's normal place. Gas will make you quite uncomfortable and doing this will help to relieve the pressure and may make you burp or pass gas!!

GOOD LUCK! It will get better!!!
Reply:You should call your doctors office and asked them to call in a stronger pain medicine for you. If your not breast feeding, you can ask for vicodin or Darvocet.
Reply:You need to have someone there to help out. You are limited on what you can lift for a reason! A c-section is major surgery! After about 2 weeks I felt pretty good. Each person is different as is their pain tolerance. Take it easy and use your meds if you have to so you will heal quickly!
Reply:Two things:

For some people, pressure over the incision feels good. So send someone to Target or Babies'R'Us or something to see if they can find you an "abdominal binder" to wear for a few days.

Also, you need to set a drug schedule and stick with it. My OB sent me home with Percoset, which I could take every six hours, and some heavy-duty ibuprofin, which I could also take every six hours. The trick is to alternate them: Percoset at 12, ibuprofin at 3, percoset at 6, ibuprofin at 9, etc. And until the pain is more manageable, STICK TO THE SCHEDULE. Set an alarm clock and get up in the middle of the night, etc., so you can stay on track. Better yet, make your partner do it.

If you don't do that, and you're experiencing a lot of pain, the pain sneaks up on you and you go from fairly OK to weepy and emotional and totally hurting in no time flat.
Reply:Girl, you just GAVE BIRTH!! Take care of yourself. Have your boyfriend, husband, fiance, mom, friend, whoever watch your five year old and lay up in bed with your newborn until you feel better. It took me almost a month before I was able to get around and that was a 'natural' birth (with stitches!). Take that Percocet as much as you need it and just relax! You don't need any stress or bs right now, you should be treated like a queen for at LEAST the next month!
Reply:why don't you try to take some ibuprofen in betwwen your doses of percocet. I had 3 c sections and this is what the doctor told me to do and it helped. How long the pain lasts depends on how well you take pain. With my first baby I hurt for a month but with my other 2 it did not hurt as much. It did hurt but I was able to handle it better. If you are breast feeding you will hurt for a shorter period of time than if you are bottle feeding. Your pain is probably partly because of your uterus contracting to return to its pre pregnancy weight. Don't forget to make your self cough so you don't get pneumonia. The way I did this that hurt less was I put a pillow over my belly, squeezed it tight to me and coughed. Congrats on your new baby.
Reply:ohhh i feel for you!!! i had a c-section with my third baby, because i wasnt dialating enough so they just did a section. After i told people i would have rather had 3 natural births over a section anyday. They pain was sooo bad!! My son is now 6 weeks old and i feel back to normal. The pain gets better with each day. I felt alot better after 2-3 weeks. However i know the pain you are feeling. I just wanted to cry i was in so much pain. I took percs every 3 hours. Even in the middle of the night. I always took one before bed because i knew i would be waking up to feed the baby. Except i had four active little boys at home who are 8,6,6,and 4. It would be sooo hard to get out of bed at night, just learning to use those ab muscles and sit up was horrible. Make sure you wear really loose fitting clothes, and hike em up LOL i know it looks goofy but keep anything from irritating the incision. You will probably feel burning and sharp pains more on one side then the other....this is because its where the OB started the incision. Walk as much as you can which i know sucks, but it does make the healing process faster. You cannot take a bath for at least 2 weeks or until the incision is fully healed. BUT i do suggest putting a really really cold washcloth over your incision. It helps so much it almost deadens the pain. With time you will heal. I truly felt horrible after mine, and honestly i have a real high pain tolerance, but that was just something else!!! I had two natural births with no pain meds and i felt awesome afterwards. After a section it feels like you were hit by a bus!! and make sure you walk as straight as you can i know this hurts, but its only for the better, if you walk hunched over you will get a backach!! and that only adds to the problems. Try to keep your legs up above your heart because swelling in your feet and ankles will happen. Dont over do it or you will only feel 10 times worse, i learnt my lesson there!! when you go to sleep at night, keep yourself propped up on pillows so its easier to get up in the middle of the night, almost like you are sitting in a recliner, and i always took a body pillow folded it in half and propped it up under my knees. It was the best way to sleep and it was so much easier to get up out of bed when i needed to! Trust me though with each day it will get better, and by 2 weeks you will feel pretty good!!! i didnt think i was ever going to feel good again! but it does happen i promise :) and by about 3 weeks you will find laying on your side isnt a problem. I hated not being able to lay on my side, because it hurt soooo bad but i mastered that again by 3 weeks! I havent tried sleeping on my tummy yet, but trust me im getting really tempted too (before being pregnant thats how i slept everynight ohh i cant wait LOL) at 6 weeks you will not be running a marathon or anything but overall the pain is gone. I can walk and kinda run LOL but i think its more in my head. Im so worried about the incision and hurting something but i think im over it....the worse part is the first day you have it done until about week 2. I hope you feel better soon and if you want to ask me anything more or need to talk let me know!!! and remove your steril strips in a week.

Reply:Hi, i had a c-section 2 years ago and i had pain killers only for 3 days after the operation.

If it is that sore, go to the docs and get some pain killers to help.

I still had mild pain up to 3 weeks but it helped moving around.

Im booked for my second c-section which will be in Sept, so hopefully that will fine.

Did you ask the hospital before you left that you were having pain? Maybe ring them as well.
Reply:i just had a c section my self one month ago. it took me about 2 weeks to feel good. i am like you i have 2 girls at home and a baby. i just got up and walked a lot. but not to much. i found that helped. the hardest thing for me was to get up. my Dr also gave me a Gretel thing to hold my stomach tight and that helped a lot too. congrats on the baby. take your time to get better everyone is different.
